PEEK handles 260°C continuous service, is chemically inert and biocompatible — ideal for medical, semiconductor, and chemical duty — but is expensive and hygroscopic.
1Properties
Continuous use 260°C, short-term 300°C. Tensile ~100 MPa, flexural modulus 3.6 GPa. Dry at 150°C for 3 h before machining.
2Processing
CNC with PCD or carbide, high speed low feed, avoid >400°C decomposition. SLS/MJF nylon can validate geometry before PEEK production.
3Applications
Medical implants, wafer carriers, pump seals, aerospace cable brackets — specify medical vs industrial grade.
4Design notes
Avoid sharp corners (R ≥0.5 mm). Uniform walls. Account for CTE mismatch with metals (~47×10⁻⁶/°C).
